You have lost crypto to a scam. The next few days matter more than the next few weeks.
Information, not advice
This page is information, not legal advice about your matter. A retainer begins only when a lawyer confirms it.
Start here
Report it today, and keep everything
Transaction IDs, wallet addresses, every message, and the exchange you sent from. Report to ReportCyber and to the exchange that received the funds on the same day. Anyone promising to recover your money for an upfront fee is running a second scam.
What to work through, in order
Reporting, and what each channel actually does
ReportCyber creates the record police work from, the receiving exchange can sometimes freeze funds if contacted early, and your own bank or exchange can flag the outbound transfer. Doing all three on the same day is the strongest position available.
Tracing and the realistic odds
On-chain tracing can usually show where funds went. Whether they can be recovered depends on whether they reached a regulated exchange, how quickly it was contacted, and whether an Australian court can reach the holder. Many cases end without recovery.
Costs, and whether it is worth pursuing
Legal costs can exceed the amount lost, and costs generally follow the event if you lose. An honest early assessment of quantum, traceability and the defendant’s reachability is worth more than an optimistic engagement.
Recovery scams
Anyone who contacts you promising to recover your funds for an upfront fee is running a second scam against the same victim. No legitimate firm guarantees recovery, and no legitimate firm asks for payment in crypto to start.
